Lighthouses & Clam Digging | Long Beach, WA

A couple of weekends ago we ditched our seasonal cozy, laid back, stay at home winter selves and road tripped five hours down south to Long Beach, WA. Pebbles were replaced with soft sand - something I haven’t seen since our last trip to Galveston, Tx.

In the truck, a ton of wool clothes accompanied us along with Logan’s trusty cooler, a bucket & a borrowed clam gun - for we were after two things; clams and lighthouses.

I didn’t get any pictures while clamming, because let’s just say… my competitive side came out & I got sucked in pretty quick. As soon as we got to where we were staying and layered up, we headed for the beach. Dark already, the long coast was freezing. Our truck was so blindly parked it felt almost remote, and above me all I saw were stars. As my breath caught the air, it arose in an ascending cloud. Encapsulated in four layers under the stars with my husband accompanied by a clam gun & a bucket, I truly felt alive. Call it beginners luck, but we got our 15 person clam limit both nights.

We spent Saturday morning exploring two different lighthouses. The reason why I’m so obsessed with lighthouses (and the PNW) is an entirely different story, and perhaps I’ll save it for another time. Both we walked right up to; they stood tall in their stature. I’d argue that Hondo & his floppy ears liked seeing them too.
